She was born in Birmingham, Alabama and developed an interest in acting as when she was a child. She decided to pursue a degree in the field of architecture at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC However, she soon left her studies to pursue a fulltime acting profession. The actress made her film debut with a role in the film 'Down Twisted'. She started gaining fame after playing one of the most important parts in the horror slasher film 'Scream'. It was extremely well-received commercially and earned 11 times the budget. It was also appreciated by reviewers. The actress reprised her character in the entire trilogy to the movie. The fame of her character grew to new heights after she played a main role in the acclaimed sitcom "Friends'". Her performance was recognized with numerous nominations and awards for her performance.
